Some dedicated Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players created two solo strategies for defeating Infernape the Unrivaled, the new Seven-Star Tera Raid boss. The Pokemon Scarlet and Violet raid strategies were shared on social media, along with the moves, abilities, and effort values (EVs) used to build the Pokemon needed to take down Infernape.
Known as the Flame Pokemon, Infernape is the Fire and Fighting dual-type starter of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. Infernape evolves from Chimchar and Monferno via leveling and is considered a swift attacker with a versatile move set that can counter most enemies. In the latest Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Seven-Star Tera Raid, Infernape was given the Rock-type as its Tera type. Despite having the hidden ability Iron First, Infernape the Unrivaled does not use punching attacks. Instead, the new boss Pokemon comes with the moves Flare Blitz, Tera Blast, Aura Sphere, Grass Knot, Swords Dance, Nasty Plot, and Focus Energy.

Hours after the arrival of Infernape the Unrivaled, some Pokemon Scarlet and Violet trainers tested ways that the Flame Pokemon could be taken down. On the r/PokemonScarletViolet subreddit, two users created distinct solo methods to defeat Infernape the Unrivaled and shared their efforts with other trainers. One of the strategies used Kommo-o, a Dragon and Fighting dual-type monster from Pokemon Sun and Moon. The crux of the Kommo-o strategy was using the Bulletproof ability to render Infernape's Aura Sphere attack completely useless against it. Kommo-o also used the moves Drain Punch, Iron Defense, and Body Press to boost its defenses and attack Infernape the Unrivaled's weakness to Fighting-type attacks. Statistically, Kommo-o was given max EVs in HP and Defense, and also relied on other Pokemon that had the Intimidate ability to cut down Infernape's attack stat upon returning to battle.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Trainers Use Kommo-o and Malamar To Solo Infernape Raids
Another strategy involved Malamar, a Dark and Psychic critter from Pokemon X and Y. Although Malamar is an unusual Pokemon by design, it has the Contrary ability that other Pokemon like Serperior have. Contrary reverses the effects of stat changes from moves like Superpower or Close Combat, and can also be given to other Pokemon via the ability-switching move Skill Swap. In this scenario, Malamar's Contrary was given to Infernape to reverse the effects of Swords Dance and Nasty Plot. Malamar followed that up with moves like Tera Blast and Superpower to overwhelm the Flame Pokemon.
In short, both strategies took advantage of the abilities available in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet to claim victory over Infernape the Unrivaled. What strategies players will form in future Tera Raid battles remains to be seen.
